Hello, I'm Zack
Welcome to my small corner of the internet! My name is Zack and I've been operating my solo engineering services business since 2013. I launched this operation the same month my daughter was born, taking a big gamble on personal independence over corporate cubicles. Over a decade later and I'm still at it, having served hundreds of clients all over the United States.
The name comes from "Zack & Laura's Company" — first two letters of each. Laura, my wife, keeps the books while I handle the engineering.
Professionally, I started my career at Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control and later took a job at FLIR Systems. My work ranged from designing cruise missiles and high-powered laser systems to building vibration test fixtures and supporting wind tunnel tests.
Since going out on my own, I've supported everything from kooky invention ideas to industrial fish-farming equipment to aerospace-grade IR camera systems.
I'm a generalist in the field of mechanical design — and I can support almost any project.

Founded ZALACO with a simple mission: provide world-class on-demand mechanical design services to businesses across the United States.
Twelve-plus years and counting — partnering with hardware startups, industrial manufacturers, medical-device companies, and aerospace teams to fill gaps and provide expertise.
FLIR Systems
Three years at FLIR Systems on high-energy laser range-finding optics — top-level system layouts, precision optical mounts (Risley prisms, Porro prisms, corner cubes), and athermal lens-mount design with FEA-tuned flexures.
Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control
Initially starting as a college intern, I spent an additional seven years at Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control across air-launched cruise missile structures, the structural and environmental test lab, and DARPA-funded laser systems.
